Bohemian Research

So my mom and I have been spending our free time, a few minutes or hours at a time here and there, over the last few months working on researching our Bohemian ancestors (who spoke German and lived in what is now the Czech Republic) -- the ancestors of my mom's grandpa Carl Spohr's parents, Ludwig [Louis] Spohr & Anna Marie Ott.  We've spent numerous hours hunched over our laptops pouring over online images that look like this:

We've found lots of ancestors, plus lots of others who we have not (yet) connected to our pedigree, but we're sure they're related too and it's only a matter of time until we find the exact connection.  With these Czech records becoming available online within the last few years, there is so much to do, it can sometimes be a little overwhelming (but I'm not complaining -- we are so grateful to finally have these records available to us without having to fly to the Czech Republic to see them).  But as we search through handwritten indexes and the digitized pages of old books, sometimes it's hard to make ourselves sit down and take the time to completely translate each record and then type it all up so it can be added to our genealogy database, rather than just making notes of which ancestors we found in which books and then following the leads on to the next part of the family in the next book.

But we have big plans to sit down and work on translating each record we've found so far (which can sometimes be a slow process, since neither of us speak German, but we can usually translate all or most of the words in a birth, marriage, or death record if we work on it together long enough).  And once we do get them all translated and all typed up, I will definitely post the information and our research notes here to share.

Anyway, just wanted to let you know that there's a reason I haven't been posting much genealogy work on this blog lately -- it's not that I've forgotten or gotten too busy with daily life, just that I'm busy at work on the genealogy and will hopefully get our research posted here sooner rather than later.  :)
